SAJNA`s leadership meeting with civil society activists and journalists in Herat Province.
SAJNA and GIZ office of German government held a joint conference under the title of (Afghan media and social responsibilities) in Herat province.
The conference discussed the role of the media in promoting good governance.
In this conference beside the local government officials, journalists, civil activists and students of Herat University were attended.
Gulab Shah Bawar, president of Social Association of Journalists at North of Afghanistan emphasized that officials of the local government must be accountable to the people through the media.
He said the media has been a bridge between the people and the government, and the local government officials must report to people through media about their achievements and their doings.
He said it`s the responsibility of media to reflect the shortcomings of government for the purpose of corrections.
At the conference, Noor Aqa Hariva, head of Barna TV in the western zone of Afghanistan, said that impartial and transparent reporting on the performance of governmental officials could lead to positive reforms and changes in local governance.
More than 70 people were attended the conference and 45% of them were women.
